Now and Then

The picture unites the past and present through the clash of their symbols. However, this clash is not direct—it happens gradually, from the horizon upwards and downwards. Again, everything is turned upside down—"Then" (the past) is at the top, and the present is at the bottom, at a black background. Yet, both compositions are mirror reflections of each other.

The theme of reflections of realities is a central motif of the entire series. As an advocate of the strict graphic structure of the city, with all its symmetry and rhythm, it was important for me to try to convey my feeling of the mirror image in this body of work.

"Then and Now" invites the viewer to contemplate the interaction and mutual influence of the past and present. The picture subtly suggests that without understanding our roots, it is impossible to move forward.
